Mixing Colours!

Yesterday morning I set this tray out for the little ones to play with.

 Learning to use the droppers was a bit tricky at first for the smaller ones but....

They all figured it out!

This  picture is of my 4 yr old daycare girl. She was thrilled to be mixing & making her own colours. She figured out how to make purple on her own & was ecstatic over it....smiling ear to ear!  Wish I could post more photos of her but for now this will have to do :)

This kept them happily entertained for about 45 minutes!

Baking soda & vinegar experiment

 

K wanted to do an experiment yesterday & after looking on Pinterest for a bit I just decided to go with the old basic baking soda/vinegar experiment.  I thought we had already done it but when I asked him he said "no".

 

  

Here he is writing his prediction in his science journal.

 

I set out two containers for him to mix with vinegar.

 

 

The first container had salt in it:

 

The next container had baking soda in it:

I did not get a great shot of the baking soda bubbling to the top (I did get a good video though :)

Here is a picture of his science journal.  After the experiment he added the check mark & the "x" in his journal & drew a picture as well.

Candy Heart Experiment

Sometimes things don't turn out as planned...but you make the best of it! 

We set out to do this experiment that I found on Pinterest:

It looked really cool & K was very excited  to try it! Our hearts didn't end up "dancing" as much as K would have liked...  but it was still fun.  Also, him & little M really got a kick out of taste testing the candy hearts after being soaked in vinegar (ick!)

 I was also really impressed with K because he also added his own little spin on the experiment & asked me if he could make a prediction in his science journal & record how long he thought it would take for the candy hearts to dissolve.

 This is K comparing the size of a regular candy heart to one that had been soaked on vinegar, baking soda & water for a few minutes. He thought it was really cool that it had shrunk!

Walking Water Experiment

 

  

 

 We found this experiment on Pinterest & K was very excited to try it. He was not disappointed!

 

 He started off by writing in his Science  Journal (just a spiral notebook I bought from the dollar store)   He made a list of materials & predicted what he thought would happen (there is a picture of his notebook & entry below)

 

He then took picture #1 & recorded in his journal with the time (11am) :

This experiment was very simple & lots of fun! K was so impressed with it. He was amazed that the water made it's way into the cup without spilling a drop on the counter ;) The best part is that I got him to practise some printing with NO complaining! :)
